when i played the demo for this back in June, i didnt like it At All. the camera was way too close to the QB and the O-Line didnt block…so i didnt buy it when it was released. but after the Greathouse patch was released, the camera is moved back for better view, the Line does a better job of blocking and the game plays Great. it takes some time to get used to, especially if your used to madden controls, but once you get used to it, it will feel comfortable to you. there is a Create A Team mode that will let you create NFL teams or download them…so the NFL License shouldnt be an issue. i Only play this game ONLINE…but offline players may be satisfied by the Season and Road To Backbreaker modes….as well as have some fun with the Tackle Alley feature.
there are some issues though. sometimes, your reciever will be called for Offensive Pass Interference because a cornerback Jumped Into Him…and sometimes, if you line your quarterback up on the BALL, when its hiked, the qb will trip over a RB’s feet and fall and give up the easy sack….but a great way to counter this is to call Pass Plays that have the QB lined up Off the line and recieve the hike. also, sometimes your reciever drops WIDE OPEN PASSES WAY TOO OFTEN…but to counter this, you MUST HOLD THE RIGHT TRIGGER AND DOWN ON THE RIGHT STICK WHILE THE BALL IS IN THE AIR and they will catch the ball everytime…thats if they arent HIT in the process of catching…
overall, if you want Realistic Unscripted Football with an interesting on-field view, give this a try.
*****UPDATE 10/7/10 as of today, NOBODY really plays this online AT ALL, i have sat in the lobby for an Hour and nobody signs on to play…and the people that Do always quit the game…

If you’re like me and you’re getting tired of the same old madden then you’d welcome a change, right? Well Backbreaker isn’t it. I rented this game so I’m glad I didn’t waste more than the five bucks rental fee on it. The game is terrible as far as game play. Uh…hello, do they realize that there are other things on the controller besides the right stick? right stick and right trigger are basically your end all be all options. You have to get comfortable with the right stick because if you mess up instead of a spin move you’ll be doing a dive. Be prepared for your player to fall down like crazy. I scored 2 touchdowns, once he bumped into a another player and fell down. The second time he hit the field goal post. During regular game play just a nudge will have him flat out on his back during a pass play. As a QB having to shift focus and change who you’re going to pass the ball to can get extremely annoying and leaves you wide open for sacks. Not to mention loping the ball. Can we say insane INT anyone? It was definitely more frustrating than fun. The playbook…if you want to call it that, is so limited. You have people creating better routes in a pick up of two hand touch.
I’m not crazy over Madden. I haven’t bought a game in a few years, or NCAA. I will easily admit that the graphics and camera angles give you a lot more realism than Madden ever has. Madden hasn’t even come close. I did enjoy the look and feel of the game during running plays but that was about it. The game has potential and with some tweaks I could definitely see better reviews in store. Until then, don’t waste your time. Rent it first if you’re dying to try it.

Most everything about this game is a little disappointing. I don’t care for the close up camera view. I don’t like the passing controls. I don’t like the limited play book. However, the hitting/tackling in this game is so FREAKING AWESOME that I LOVE playing it. Because of the previously mentioned issues, this game should be boring and I should hate it, but I don’t. The hitting is so realistic that I can’t get enough of it. There are so many HOLY CRAP did you see that moments that it makes up for everything else. Madden has the better view, more plays, and so on, but the hitting/tackling sucks so bad that I get bored very quickly and find myself not wanting to play Madden at all. Normally after playing Madden I find myself regretting having payed 60 bucks for it. Luckily, this year I wised up and rented Madden first. After playing it for about a hour I felt a since of relief for not having bought it. I’m hoping there will be a BackBreaker 2 that will address some of the issues I have with it. But, again, this is a very satisfying game.

I think I wasted my money on this game. The on screen menus are very small and hard to read even on my HD screen. This can be worked around, but the graphics are poor and the amimals have jerky movements. To move around the woods and fields you need to move so slowly it is painful. Worse for me is the choosing of the equipment is not easy as the buttons on the menus don’t always work and you can not enter the game with what equipment you finally ended up buying.
